Eco – Friendly Easter Baskets created by Moms for the family to enjoy!

For those who are planning to go away for the weekend, why not head somewhere nearby to lessen your carbon footprint. Head down to Sentosa or have a picnic on rustic Pulau Ubin, or take a boat down to check out Batam or head to the resort island of Bintan. Take a drive down to Malaysia and enjoy the seafood there.. Green Easter Guide

Easter is a great holiday to spend with the family because there are activities involved -- dying eggs, egg hunts and gift-giving.

As with anything, it's very simple to make your holiday more environmentally friendly! Here are some quick Greener Easter tips!

1. GREENER EASTER BASKETS

Just use the basket from last year -- which you saved, right? -- and fill it with cut-up newspaper and magazine clippings. It's not like that cheap plastic stuff really approximates grass, anyway! Plus, it'll be easier to clean up.

2. GREENER GOODIES

Fill the baskets with local, organic chocolates and low-impact, usable gifts that encourage green living and thinking -- like bike accessories, or solar-powered toys.

3. BETTER EASTER EGGS

Dye eggs that you'll actually eat -- cage-free, organic and all the rest -- and do it with natural dyes.

4. GREENER EASTER NEXT YEAR

Put your Easter baskets in storage for next year -- and watch stoop sales and flea markets for anything you really wish you had but don't want to buy new -- like those plastic eggs, for example.

Easter eggs go eco friendly

Nestlé has removed plastic packaging from 20 million of its products in the run-up to Easter in a major move by the Swiss food giant moves to reduce its environmental impact.

Nestlé says the move to replace the plastic casings around Easter eggs with cardboard will eliminate 700 tonnes of waste and bring about a 30% reduction in the weight of packaging for the products affected. The move covers major brands including Kit-Kat and Aero.

Meanwhile, Green & Blacks is aiming for a 60% reduction in waste by eliminating traditional cardboard box packaging in favour of a gift-bag design and more robust eggs.Packaging campaigner Jo Swinson MP told the Daily Mail the news represented "a step in the right direction" but warned: "To have a real impact, this packaging reduction must be part of a broader trend rather than a one-off change."

The news comes after Waitrose was this week surprisingly singled out in a local government report for using more unnecessary packaging than seven supermarket rivals, dealing a blow to its cherished green credentials.
